The best receptions tell a story through their details. From custom menus to bespoke florals, here is how the couples we admire most approach the art of styling.
We are detail photographers at heart. The ring resting on a handwritten vow card. The grandmother's brooch pinned into the bridal bouquet. The hand-calligraphed escort cards catching the light.
Reception styling is an art form unto itself, and when done with intention, the details become as emotionally resonant as the portraits.
We always recommend that couples designate a 'detail hour' before guests arrive at the reception. This is when we photograph the centerpieces, the cake, the table settings — without any blurred shoulders or crowded backgrounds.
The florals deserve their own session. Work with your floral designer to have a few loose stems and ribbon available so we can create detail vignettes that stand alone as art.
Finally, do not overlook lighting. The difference between a beautiful table and a breathtaking photograph of that table is almost entirely determined by the ambient light. Warm candles and pin lights will always beat fluorescent overheads.
